Hi Steve,
I am also researching the Batham family. My maternal great-grandmother was a Batham.Born Emily Jane Batham in Kensington in 1864, she married George Tilley in 1884.They continued to live in the Kensington area where George worked as a chimney sweep.
Emily Jane's father was George Batham, son of William and Mary Batham (nee Champelovier).According to the 1851 census, William was born in St Martins in about 1787 and Mary was born in St Giles around 1795. William worked as a locksmith and then a whitesmith and had died by the time of the 1861 census.Mary died in 1870.
George was born in Notting Dale in 1839 and married Jane Phillips, although I can't find the marriage.Jane died in 1880 and George and his family show up in Kensington on the LDS 1881 census transcription as Botham. His older brother's family are also incorrectly transcribed, this time as Bathur!Edward's eldest son, Edward Harty Batham, has a family of his own, but his age has been transcribed as being in his 70s rather than his 20s. It took me ages to find them all!!
I have just made contact with one of Edward's great-grandsons, although he is no further back than I am.
I look forward to hearing how my Bathams fit in with yours!
