Grandpa Battise (Frank) worked as a railroad conductor, based in Kansas, later lived in Los Angeles, CA.He told my father that the Battise family originated from the south of France, and that when the family emigrated to America, the mother of James Wm. Battise was pregnant. They were detained on Madeira Island off the coast of Portugal until the baby was born and old enough for the long voyage to America.
We know that Florence lived in Wenatchee, Washington, and vacationed on Whidbey Island, WA.
William Battise changed his surname spelling back to the original French, 'Batiste'.We think Robt. Allen Battise did the same and possibly lived in Washington state, too.
