ed batsel about Thomas Batsel
Ed, I hope u find this.
the daughter of Robert Batsel (c1781-1859) and his first wife, Elizabeth Nall (c1789-bef. 1824). I descend from Robert's brother Thomas Batsel, who married Elizabeth's sister Grizza Keziah Nall, so we connect on both the Batsel and Nall lines (3 Batsel siblings married 3 Nall siblings). I'll email you directly with the info I have on the Batsel and Nall lines.

John BATSEL will, 1820/1833
Posted by Michelle Taunton
Surname: Batsel, Taylor, Summers, Nalle, Nall, Morris, Linthacum, Lewis
Nelson County, Kentucky, Will Book 2, page 45, will of John Batsel, Sr.:
In the name of God, Amen. I John Batsel of Nelson County, State of Kentucky, Being of sound mind and disposing mind and memory and understanding considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time thereof and being desirious to settle my worldy affairs and thereby be the better prepared to leav this world when it shall please God to call me hence, I do hereby make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following. That is to say principally I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God, my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my funds and after my just debts are paid, I desire and bequeath as follows: My sons Thomas, Robert and Nathaniel have received four hundred dollars each of my real estate and they are not to interfere with the residue of my real estate until the rest of viz: John, Smith, Sarah and Elizabeth, the rest of my children, receives five undred dollars each, viz the negroes except James to be devided among the said John Batsel, Smith Batsel, Sarah Taylor and Elizabeth Summers. Equal at a reasonable value because the above mentioned Thomas, Robert and Nat Batsel received their land at low value and I wish to do justice and not over rate the negroes. My plantation to be sold or divided to the best advantage among my heirs as they think proper. The residue of the property all sold to the best advantage be it distinctly understood that Thomas B. Nalle, a son of my daughter Susannah, dec'd., is to have five hundred dollars of my estate and no more. That if there should be five hundred dollars a piece for each of my children and leave him five, if not, he is to have his mother's part the said Thomas B. Nalle's portion to be kept in the hands of the administrator until he arrives to the age of twenty one and then to receive his portion if the said Thos. B. Nalle should not live to be twenty one, his three sisters by mother to receive his portion. If my beloved wife should be the longest lived my wish is for her to take her bed, her trunk c/c? and James to be her servant as long as she lives and then the said James is to be at Liberty. The portion of negroes falling into the hands of Smith Batsel shall be for the use and benefit of his heirs forever. Also the portion of negroes falling into the hands of Elizabeth Summers, my daughter, shall be for her use and benefit her lifetime and then to be for the use and benefit of her children forever. If the products of the estate should be more than the above mentioned five hundred dollars each the surplus is to be equally divided among my children. Lastly I do constitute and appoint my sons John and Robert Batsel to adms. or execute this my last will and testament as witness my hand and seal this twenty first day of April eighteen hundred and twenty.
Signed, sealed, delivered John Batsel
in presence of:
Teste Joshua Morris
Thomas Linthacum

I descend from Robert's brother Thomas Batsel, who married Elizabeth's sister Grizza Keziah Nall, so we connect on both the Batsel and Nall lines (3 Batsel siblings married 3 Nall siblings). I'll email you directly with the info I have on the Batsel and Nall lines.

Notes for RAYMOND CARLTON SULTZ:
Yes, Dad(oliver wayne) says they were very poor. When his Dad(raymond) died, the farmer donated
lumber to build the casket. He did not recall who built it. Grandpa was
buried behind the farmers barn. My dad thought the cemetery was moved to
make room for a highway or lake, possibly lake Ufalla (SP?) Aunt Ester (in
Tulsa) might know something if I could get down there. Talked to her on the
phone a couple of times, but did not get anything solid to work from.
I don't think I have looked in the 1930 census. I requested it from the
library here but it never came. Would the be Washington County,,,,,,,,,?
I just need to make time to go down there and do research. Seems to be tough
to do these days.
Dad really has no good information on Carl for me to work with. No SSN or
Service Number (US Army I think). Don't even know where he signed up at.
Thanks again for the information Alice! , Dave

McGillivray, Alexander
McGillivray, Alexander (circa 1759-93), Creek leader, who relied on British and later on Spanish support to preserve Creek independence against United States expansionism during and after the American Revolution. Born near present Wetumpka, Alabama, of a Scottish father and a half-French mother, McGillivray was only one-quarter Creek. He spent his early years with the Native Americans and was later trained in liberal arts and business in Charleston, South Carolina. During the Revolution he became a chief among the Creeks in what is now Alabama and western Georgia and sided with the British, who gave him the rank of colonel. After Britain's withdrawal from the area in 1783, he turned to the Spanish, who had taken control of the Gulf coast, granting them a trade monopoly and a protectorate over his people in 1784. In subsequent years, Spanish authorities in Florida and Louisiana helped McGillivray to resist occupation of Creek territory by settlers from Georgia. In 1790, after the Spanish had cut off his supplies, he went to New York, where he signed a treaty that recognized U.S. sovereignty over the Creeks and established a line near the Altamaha River as the boundary between Georgia and the Creek nation. Two years later he negotiated another agreement with Spain in which he promised to resist U.S. encroachment. McGillivray died in Pensacola, Florida, on February 17, 1793.

Creek Indian Chief William McIntosh (1775 approx. - 1825)
William McIntosh, son of (Scottish) Captain William McIntosh and Senoia Henneha of the Coweta-Cussitta Towns of the Lower Creeks, was born about 1775 near Tuetumpla (now Alabama). McIntosh was raised by his mother's brothers, who taught him the life skills necessary to survive in the wilderness on his own.
McIntosh also spent much time with his father and stepmother in the Savannah area. It was here that he learned to read, write and speak English. He learned his business skills from his father as well. Feeling comfortable with both his mother's people and his father's people helped McIntosh to gain the confidence necessary to become a leader.
His mother was of the Wind Clan, the clan from which leaders are usually chosen. McIntosh became a Micco (king) of the Lower Creek villages. That is, he was elected orator, or chief spokesman for these loosely aligned villages.
White's Historical Collections of Georgia, an early Georgia history, described McIntosh as intelligent and brave. In person he was tall, finely formed, and of graceful and commanding manners. His first cousin was George Troup, who served as Governor of Georgia.
McIntosh's military rank was earned by fighting with American forces under the command of Andrew Jackson in the War of 1812. He fought well at the battles of Autossee, the Battle of Horse Shoe and in the Florida campaign. His rank was Brigadier General.
An astute businessman, McIntosh amassed considerable wealth. His plantation in Carroll County was the home of 40 slaves, many head of cattle, and sheep, as well as much land under cultivation. McIntosh was married three times: to Susanna Coe (a Creek woman), Peggy (a Cherokee), and Eliza. Each lived in her own home on a nearby plantation.
By 1823 when the first of the treaties for land in Georgia was being signed, McIntosh was aware that the Americans were going to acquire more and more land. Having fought along side them, McIntosh felt strongly that the Creeks should sell their land and take the money and land promised in the West. It was to this end that he signed the Treaty of 1825 at the Indian Spring Hotel. Unfortunately, McIntosh was unable to convince the leaders of the Upper Creek villages or the Cherokee at New Echota. He wrote to his cousin, Governor Troup asking for support, but the promised troops never arrived. While the treaty was being signed on the bar, leaders of the Upper Creek villages stood outside the hotel and swore revenge on McIntosh.
McIntosh was traced to his home in Carroll County where he was found and killed. His slaves were run off, his crops burned, and his cattle slaughtered. His plantation was burned. McIntosh fought valiantly but was mortally wounded and driven by fire from his home. After falling, McIntosh was scalped. His wife Susanna threw herself over his body and protected it for three days until troops arrived and buried McIntosh on the spot.
The Hotel is being restored to the 1823-1833 time period under the direction of an historic consultant. Already completed is an 1830's garden with summerhouse dedicated to Georgia First Lady Elizabeth Harris in 1990.

Notes for OLIVER WAYNE SULTZ:
Yes, Dad says they were very poor. When his Dad died, the farmer donated
lumber to build the casket.
Thanks again for the information Alice! , Dave
