Battles/ 1/8/00

Just surprised to see so many Battles out there. I don't know anyone with the same last name. I'm not sure the origin of the name- I was told it might have come from the Battle of Hastings...My father was David Brewster Battles and my grandfather was Allen Battles. I haven't traced back any further than that. I am the end of the line of the Battles in our family...the only one who has kept their name. Curious if anyone knows the origin of the name, since there are so few of us. Thanks!
