Father of Geo. Wash. Battles, b. 1883??

Greetings Battles Researchers,

Thought I'd post one of my "brickwalls" to see if anyone has any suggestions.

Trying to locate any information on the father of George Washington Battles, b. 9/25/1883 in St. Clair Co., Alabama.Mother was Mary Ann (Polly) Battles, b. 1846.Apparently "Polly" did not marry G.W.'s father though I've heard mention of him being referred to as "Doc" or "Uncle Doc".

Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Thanks!!
