There was a Noel Battles who fought in the American Revolution with my ancestor, Shadrach Battles. They joined the service Dec. 3, 1776 in Albemarle Co. Virginia.I do not know if this Noel is the same William Noel Battles(by). However, I do know that my Battle who was born around 1746 resided in Goochland, Albemarle, and Amherst County in VA..If you know that Wm Noel is Noel, I would suggest that you review hiscompiled service records for his service during theRevolutionary War Records He was with the 10th and 6th Regiment Virginia Regiment, (M881, Roll #1063 VA, (B-C), #101).He fought in the Battle of Brandywine, Germantown, and Stoney Point. He also had a penchant for getting minor musket wounds.I do know that he is relaated to someone named Betty Buefordwho resided in Ashville, AL in 1933.He received his pension in 1832,I think he was discharged in Augusta, GA, where he possible remained until at least 1832, and then moved to St. Clair AL.My Shadrack Battles was of indian heritage.
The Battersby you refer to was one of the first magistrates for Albemarle Co., VA in 1745 in Scottsville (the 1st county seat).Residing on the south side of the James Riverhe operated a ferry to get to and from the court house. Most of the records for the county from 1748 until the end of the Civil War were destroyed by either Flooding of the James River or war. Most documentation that exists today is from family records of the families of Albemarle (Check Rev. Woods book, History of Albemarle Cty.).I have been able to find info. at the Liab of VA on line and at its headquarters.
Hope this has been of help.If you run across any infor (besides Revolutionary War) on Shadrach Battles, please let me know.
