On the 1850 St. Clair County Census Nancy Battles age 29 (listed as insane) is living with Samuel Battles & wife Nancy "Wright" Battles—sister of Kizziah "Wright" Battles the wife of William Battles.
Could it be possible that she is named after her Aunt Nancy (wife of Samuel)? AND could it be possible that Kizziah Wright Battles (wife of William) was not mentally capable of caring for her young children and that is why they are listed in the household of Samuel Battles and wife Nancy Wright Battles the sister of Kizziah. It would be logical for Kizziah’s sister Nancy to care for her children.
IF you look at the 1820, 1830 & 1840 census you will see children listed that are the right age for Nancy, Lucinda and Raleigh Battles to be living in Samuel’s household BUT not listed in the Deed of Gift he made in 1827.
The Battles family is a real puzzle…that’s why it is so much fun to trace their genealogy.
