My great-great-grandfather was John Hodgess Smith, an Iron Moulder of Deritend and Bordesley. His sister was Keziah Smith. In 3Q1880, she married Eli Bayliss in Aston RD, Warwickshire, England, and they proceeded to have Maria, Frank E, Lillian and Clara Bayliss, all born between 1881 and 1895, in the Birmingham area.
Eli was born in 1854 and died in 1913. He was a clerk in Balsall Heath. His mother appears in 1861 as a widow, with a couple of daughters and Eli, all born after 1851. His mother was Maria Bayliss, sometimes given as BAYLIS,and she was born in London in about 1831. At some time between 1851 and 1861, she moved to Birmingham, married a Mr Bayliss, who then promptly died before they had completed their first decade of married life, leaving her with several children to bring up alone.
If you are a descendant of Eli and Keziah Bayliss (she died in 1941, in her 80s), and therefore a cousin of my family, or if you are a member of the wider Bayliss Clan, and know how Eli fits into that extended family via his father, I would be more than interested in making contact with you.
