A Moses L. Bean b.Oct. 1841 married a Mary A. Arey b.Sept. 15, 1851--d.Feb. 25, 1914. Daughter of John Arey and Nancy Holmes. Married Moses L. Bean on July 24, l866. Some of Moses' and Mary's children: Eugene Holmes Bean Sr. b.July 12, 1873 Daisy Bean b.Jan. 6, 1882 Mary H.Bean b.Sept. 14, 1891(may have married a Russell first or last name) Moses Bean b.Sept 1891 These children come from a 1900 census record. This seems to show a Sr. and Jr. If the "L" in Moses' names stands for "Locke" then I have info on him: Moses Locke Bean was born in 1841 in Brunswick County, NC. When he was 20 yrs. old, on May 30, l861 he enlisted in Brunswick County NC as a Sergeant. He mustered into "K" Company of the 4th NC Infantry. He was wounded and hospitalized in Richmond, VA. on May 15, 1864 and was returned to duty sometime later. He was promoted to Lieutenant on March l6, l865. He took the oath of allegiance on May 30, 1865 in Rowan County, Salisbury, NC. This souce for the info on his war record is North Carolina Troops 1861-1865, A Rooster. This came from another person helping and using the "Locke" name. I have a family book on the "History of Rowan County, but only mentions "L" as the middle initial. And that is where I'm stumped. Reads. Title: 4th Regiment-Rowan Rifle Guards. Entered Service April 19, 1861. Reorganized as Company K-Infantry-May 30th,1861: Officers: Mentions him as 4th Sergeant enlisted May 30, 1861 at age 20, promoted 1st Sergeant 1862, promoted 2nd Lieutenant April 1, 1863. Promoted 1st Lieutenant Sept. 19, 1864, promoted Captain Feb. 1865 w May 12, 1864. They do show similarities. I do know that Eugene Holmes Bean is a Sr. because Eugene Jr. was my father(b.Dec. 13. 1916 d. Oct. 16, 1982. Had a younger sister and brother who were twins. Owen Duke Bean(b.Feb. 5, 1920 d.Feb. 4, 1991)and Mary Elizabeth Bean(b.Feb. 5, l920 d. as an infant. Twins buried in the Chestnut Hill Cemetary in Salisbury, NC. And do know that the names Daisy and Mary are sisters to Eugene Sr. Other children not mentioned in the census are: infant son b&d Dec. 22, 1868 infant son b&d Nov. 7, 1869 Walter b.April 1, 1871 d.Aug. 25, 1875 William Ralph b.Nov. 3, 1875 d.July 30, 1938 Floyd b.Feb. 28, 1877 d.Sept.12, 1890 Blanch b.Sept. 18, 1879 d.March 2, 1881 Nancy b.Oct. 1884 d.Oct.24, 1885 Leland b.Sept. 7, 1887 d.Jan. 11, l888 Lilly May b.March 20, 1886 or 1889 d.Sept. 20,1892 Grayce b&d unknown All Bean's--hopefully!!
