Hi Alan,
Here is what I have on William and his immediate family.
Michele
Descendants of William Bean
Generation No. 1
1.WILLIAM2 BEAN(RICHARD1) was born 1800 in NC, USA1, and died August 1870.He married CATHERINE MCCARN Bet. 1831 - 18362.She was born 1815 in NC, USA3, and died Bef. 18884.
Notes for WILLIAM BEAN:
Flossie Bean's notes inferred the birthdate and location from 1900 Tennessee census information. However, the death certificate for Emanuel Bean lists his father's birthplace as North Carolina, as well as his mother's.
Flossie's notes also list this man as John W. Bean, but there are no John Beans in NC married to a Catherine. There is one William married to a Catherine. And marriage records for their children indicate that his name was William.Census records list him continuously as William Bean. So there are no records that I've found listing his first name as John. Therefore, I will list him as William.
Also, according to census informtion, William lives near Chany Bean in Davidson Co, NC.Chany was the wife of Richard Bean (1750-1815).I believe William to be the same one mentioned in Richard's will in 1815.

Notes for AMANDA E. BEAN:
She seems to have remained single, as she is listed in the censuses as living on the family land and retains her maiden name. However, she seems to take in children from other family members, as evidenced by Wiley in 1880.She is listed as the parent for Ida Bean in marriage records, too.I don't know where Robert and Roby came from in the 1880 census, but she is listed as the mother, so I assume she "adopts" them, legally or not.I will continue to list the children I find with her, until I determine from which family the children were borne.

Notes for EMANUEL BEAN:
I have a typewritten copy of his obituary:
Obituary.
Emanuel son of Buck and Catherine Bean was born June 1st, 1855 in North Carolina at Winston-Salem.At the age of sixteen years he was converted and joined the M. E. Church.
On May the 4th of 1879 he was married to Josephine Mickey whose death occured Nov. 23rd 1909.Eleven Children were born to this union all of whom survive but two daughters Namely: Anna and Pheobe.
Mr. Bean was a kindhearted, hardworking and self sacrificing man.Always forgetful of self but thoughtful of thers.
While living in North Carolina he was a black smith by trade, after coming to Indiana in 1898 he took up farming.
Two years ago he was taken to the hospital and while there it was necessary to remove his limb on account of blood poisening, from this Mr. Bean never fully recovered, he grew worse a week before Thanksgiving, and departed this life Tuesday A. M. Dec. 2nd, 1924, age 69 years, 6 months, 1 day.
He seemed to realize the end was near, for four of five days he talked about his loved ones gone before, he said he was ready, and wanted to go.
He made his home with his son Reuben and daughter Edith. He loved all his children dearly and no sacrifice was too great for him to make for them.
The children left to morn their loss are Wiley, Reuben, Ollie, Charlee, Biddie, and Edith Elkins of Mooresville, Rhoda McKinney of Monrovia, Eunice Housand of Mishawaka, Ind. and Stella Wallace of Stilesfille, Ind.There are seventeen grandchildren a number of other relatives and many friends.
Rest for the toiling hand,
Rest for the anxious brow,
Rest for the weary, wayworn feet
Rest from all labors now.
Rest for the fevered brain,
Rest for the throbbing eye,
Through these parched lips of thine no more,
Shall pass the moan or sigh.
According to notes in Flossie Bean's genealogy notebooks, Josephine and Emanuel Bean came to Mooresville, IN by train in 1898 with 9 children, 2 coon dogs, and 1 shotgun.February 23, 1917 Emanuel Bean and family moved to the Alexander farm he purchased near Stilesville.Len Edwards was auctioneer at sale--J. E. Bean was the clerk.
In the 1880 census, he is listed as married to Sarah with a 1-mo. old boy, Rubin.Manuel's occupation is "huckster".The family is living on Chany's family property, which would indicate that it is our Emanuel, but I have a marriage certificate for Emanuel marrying Josephine Mickey in 1879, and this marriage is documented as continuing into the 1900s with many children.Emanuel and Josephine have their first child, Wiley Thomas, 9 months after their marriage. The conflict is therefore unresolvable at this time.
More About EMANUEL BEAN:
Burial Location: Mooresville, IN, USA
Cause of Death: Diabetes
Cause of Death (2): Complications wih blood poisoning and loss of limb.
Occupation 1: Blacksmith while in NC
Occupation 2: Farmer in Indiana
Notes for JOSEPHINE ALICE MICKEY:
I have a handwritten copy of Josephine's obituary:
Obituary.
Josephine Mickey was born in Surrey Co North Carolina, Sept. 13, 1859, died at her home near Brooklyn, Nov. 24, 1909, aged 50 years, 2 mo.'s, 11 days.
To this union were born 11 children; six daughters and five sons.
The death of Anna the eldest daughter in 1902 was the first link from the ____ chain; 4 years later, the home was darkened by Phoebe leaving it.
We have neigher desire nor reason to doubt that the Mother is spending a joyful Thanksgiving, Beyond where physical suffering and mental agony are unknown.
Her life has known many hrdships. The last twelve months have been filled with such suffering as only those afflicted with the terrible disease which ended her life, can understand.
Thro' it all, she was supported by the faith whch, in her closing hours, enabled her to sing, "I want to meet you all over there."
Prayer and song marked the close of her earthly career.Mother's last request was that "all would meet her in Heaven."
Her concern was not for herself, but her family.
so had her life been spent--thinking, toiling, caring for others.
We, who belive in the law of compensation, find confort in the tho't that the greater the trials and tribulations of the righteous, the richer the reward.
She had been a member of the Methodist Church from girlhood, but since her removal to this state her relationship has chiefly been with the Friends.
In addition to her immediate family, she leaves a father, two brothers, and four sister's residents of Carolina.
Refer to Brown Twp. Book H17, page 25 for death information.
x. WILLIAM HAMPTON BEAN, b. 1864; d. 1899; m. PLUTINA MATTHEWS, September 16, 1888, Yadkin Co, NC; b. 1869; d. 1900.
Notes for WILLIAM HAMPTON BEAN:
"Hampton" is the name of the newly-created voting district in their neighborhood of Davidson Co, NC.
Most documentation lists him as "W. Hampton."
xi. WILEY BEAN, b. 1867; d. Unknown.
Endnotes
1.1860 Census.
2.1840 Census.
3.1860 Census.
4.Marriage records.Amanda is listed as his mother, and he is living with her in 1880, but she is too young to be his mother-- think it's his sister and the mother (Catherine) died.
5.Cemetery Records. He is mentioned as Alford and Alfred in census records, but his cemetery record names him as Alford.
