Well, after spending time in the Microfilms of the census' I have discovered that Edward Everett BEAN is NOT from Dixmont, ME at all, he was born in PORTLAND, Cumberland Co., ME and basically never left there.
His father was a John BEAN alright but his father at age 18 was living with a Cushing family in Portland.
Here's the Census info and how it all plays out.
1850 Portland, ME - July 24th-
John BEAN age 18 farmer b. New Hampshire
1860 Portland, Maine - Ward 4 - June 8-
John D. BEAN age 32 laborer b. ME (now he's b. ME??)
Lavina C. 24 b. ME
EDWARD E. 6 b. ME
Earline? F. 9 b. ME
Lucien L. 1 b. ME
1870 & 1880 I can't find John BEAN but didn't spend a lot of time searching for them as I wanted to check on Edward Everett BEAN and family his son.
1880 Portland, Cumberland Co., Maine - June 8th - living on Bradford St.
Edward E. BEAN 26 brakeman (for railroad) b. Maine
MAGGIE 23 wife (she was his 1st wife)
Willer? Wilber?? E. age 2 son b. ME (this must his son Everett L. BEAN as will be pointed out later)
1900 Portland, ME - living on Mechanic St.
Edward E. BEAN b. Jan. 1854 age 46 baggage master (for rail road), widow was written but scratched through and married for 11 years to his 2nd wife b. ME ME ME
Melvina - wife - b. Jan. 1868 age 39 m. 11 years 3 children 3 living b. ME ME ME (Melivina is a daughter of Simon NEWCOMB, Jr. and his 2nd wife Mary RICHARDS.
Simon, Jr. is a son of Simon NEWCOMB and Sarah "Sally" MOODY (daugh. of my 5th grt. grandparents James MOODY and Elizabeth DONALD / Dunnell/ Donnell of Buxton, York Co., Maine).
Continuing on with the 1900 Portland, ME census info on Edward and Melivina's children:
Frank L. BEAN - son b. June 1889 age 10 b. ME
Mabel A. daugh b. April 1893 age 7 b. ME
Leroy E. son b. Sept. 1895 age 4 b. ME
and Everett S. BEAN - son b. Aug. 1879 age 20 single b. ME ME ME (this is, I believe the "Willer"?? from the 1880 census who in that year was marked as 2 years old. This son was from Edward's 1st wife Maggie ______.
1910 Portland, Maine census - April 27th
very hard to read this census info...
Can't find Edward E. BEAN and wife Melvina
However I did find his eldest son
Everett L. BEAN age 28 1st marriage married 5 years brakeman with R.R., b. ME ME ME
Emma?? F. - wife 27 1st marriage b. ME ME ME
Marian M. BLAISDELL?? RANDALL??something similar Mother-in-law - widow age 75 b. ME ME ME
1920 Portland, ME census - Jan. 14th - living on Danforth St. - Dist. 51 -
Edward E. BEAN age 66 baggage master for R.R. b. ME - Scotland - Canada??This is most peculiar as his Father was born in NH and his mother in Maine as both stated from the 1850 and 1860 Portland census'.
Obviously Edward was showing his Scottish roots!
Melvina N. - wife age 51 b. ME ME ME
Wallace D. BEAN son 15 b. ME (great Scottish name)
**************************************************
So Obviously the Edward E. BEAN of the Dixmont, Penobscot Co., Maine family of BEANS which just so happens that his father was also a JOHN BEAN but his mother was Charlotte (Arnold) WENTWORTH who was apparently widowed or divorced with several little children and she married 2nd to the John BEAN in that area and they ironically had a son named Edward E. BEAN.
That John BEAN was born around c1815 however and the John D. BEAN of Portland, ME (from NH) was born c1828.
I can easily see the confusion however.
But as Edward Everett BEAN who married my Malvina NEWCOMB never seems to have left Portland, ME, I feel quite certain that the Edward of Portland is the correct one.
If I find more info on his Father John D. BEAN or if I find him in the 1870 census or find Edward in the 1910 census, I'll be back to post more.
If anyone can add to the Lineage line of this John D. BEAN born c1828 in NH, I would be most greatful.
Thank you.
