Surely I can't be the only researcher who has noted this discrepancy!
The genealogies of John Bean of Exeter (1970, 1977, 1992) say that Jeremiah (b 20 Apr 1675, d. 1727), son of John Bean by his second wife Margaret, md, prob. by 1708, to Ruth JOHNSON.She is listed as daughter of Matthew and Rebecca (WISWALL) JOHNSON, and as having been b. 1 Jan 1675 in Hampton Falls NH; Ruth (JOHNSON) BEAN died before 27 Dec 1758 Exeter NH, as her will was executed on that date.Their oldest child was James, later a Quaker minister, who must have been b. at least by 1708 as his first marriage was ca 1728 (his first child was b. ca 1729, and 8 more children following).
However, the birthdate given is that of Ruth JOHNSON, b. 1 Jan 1675 Woburn MA, daughter of Matthew and Rebecca (WISWALL) JOHNSON of Woburn, a very well-documented family there.Their daughter Ruth md 10 Jan 1697 in Woburn to John REED, of another well-known Woburn family, who was b. 18 Mar 1671 in Woburn and d. 9 Mar 1733 in MA.This couple had at least 2 children - Josiah, b 26 Mar 1702 in Woburn, and Ruth, b Aug 1708 in MA.
Both the marriages and the births of their children seem to have overlapped, and John REED died years after the JOHNSON-BEAN marriage.Either these were 2 different Ruth JOHNSONs - or there's a story here!
Dan anyone help?Either with a solution or with further data on the REED and BEAN families?
