Hello Linda,We'll to be honest with you I am not exactly sure were I found U.I think it was on the Bear genforum list.I e mailed several folks the other night that looked like we might have a connection.I am enrolled in the Cherokee Tribe of NE Alabama through My grandmothers blood. The bear family is on my Grandfathers side.WE new they were Indian as well we just never had them documentation.
If your family is from Union, Campbell, Anderson, Jefferson, Roane, Grainger counties TN .we are probably related. The bears are a well documented Cherokee family.your names do look very familiar. You had mentioned cousins marrying cousins.I think that took place in this family as well.I am at a pow-wow in Alabama this weekend but I really would like to discuss this all with youI have added some additional census info.
My james Bear was born approx 1790 in NC.His wife Polly was born about 1810 in NC as well.Keeping these dates in mind I think there is a good chance My James born 1790 approx and your William born 1818 are brothers.Just a guess.
What do you think?
Oh yea do you live here in TN as well.I live in Clinton Anderson county tn.
I know the census says black but they were not.Anyone who was not white would of been listed as colored at the time.Because everyone trys t o be politically correct they say Black when they transcribe some records. In 1880 Black was not a term utilized. It probably says colored on the actuall record.I will have to check it out to see. This was probably the case with these Ancesters. As they are listed as white and indian on the other census years.

Hi Bryan, I recieved the information. I'm not really sure about anything past 1818.My g-=g-grandfather was William Bear , his wife was Susan. They had James, Jessee, lucy, Samuel, margret, Mary Polly(she married a cousin named John) This is possibly our connection. Lucinda, Joseph(my g-grandfather) jane and John. William was born in 1818 somewhere in NChe died in 1864 as a result of wounds . The Battle of Chickamauga. There is a family story about 2 brithers comming across the mountain and being raised by a Click family. We assume William has a brother but at this time we have no clue as to his identity. It would be wonderful if the Bear Family your researching is the same as mine . I have LOTS of info . I also have info for both John and Williams cival war tour. If any of these names sound familar , GREAT. Let me know either way please. I know were related somehow. All of the older Bears look a lot alike, you can pick them from a crowd. Also its rumored that we are Cherokee, there is a connectionand I look foreward to finding it . This is also a family effort, there are several of working on this tree. .................looking foreward to your reply ...lindaPS how did you find me?
