There IS a village named Beard with the accent over the e in France. It is between Orleans, Dijon and Lyons. I am quite aware that the french word for a beard is not beard. I have never said that the surname Beard was related to the hair on ones face. Although that is a common assumptiom,it may not the origion of of all the Beard lines. I do know that our line came from France to England. They settled in Colchester. They were Huguenots. They later became strong Anglicans. It is possible that thier name origionated by coming from the place named Beard. Who knows?
