Indian connections to family
Beards were Indian traders, or connected to the Indians, as they are listed in an index to a three-volume journal of Indian affairs from South Carolina.
The index is at http://members.aol.com/rarebkhttp://members.aol.com/rarebk.Once at the site, go to Booklists, then Native American Genealogy, then scroll down to the Cherokee Ancestry CD, and invoke the index.
The site also has on-pine the surname index to Starr’s “Old Cherokee Families and Their Genealogy,” as well as an on-line Tutorial describing in great detail how to do Native American genealogy research. The 1835 Cherokee census is listed in this tutorial as well.
A very intriguing site.
