Can you supply evidence that John GAITHER's wife Ruth was a BEARD?Richard BEARD in his will left to his daughter Ruth "AND HER SONS" part of the tract "Timber Neck" in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.(Md. Cal. of Wills 1:99) There is no record of any of the GAITHERs ever possessing part of "Timber Neck."Noone has ever supplied evidence that Ruth, daughter of Richard BEARD, and Ruth, wife of John GAITHER are the same person. This idea appears to have its origin in someone making that assumption.
One possibility that deserves further investigation is that John WHEELER in his 1684 will (MD Cal. of Wills 1:161) left to his son John, 100 acres of "Timber Neck," and if he died without issue then to Richard and Matthew, sons of Richard BEARD. [Note this is Richard BEARD, Jr., son of Richard BEARD and Rachel ROBINS.]John WHEELER also named his wife Christian. The question is where did John WHEELER acquire part of "Timber Neck" and in case of his son's death, why did he will it to the BEARD family? One possibility is that John WHEELER's first wife was Ruth BEARD. http://pweb.netcom.com/~fzsaund/gaither.htmlhttp://pweb.netcom.com/~fzsaund/gaither.html
