Thomas Beard removed to Chester Co., PA, abt 1736, then to Augusta Co., VA, abt 1746, where he owned large tracts of land. Some researchrs list Jean McNutt's given name as Mary Jean. He was appointed administrator of James McNutt's estate on 22 Aug 1749. Records dated 15 Aug 1753 show that Thomas paid his son-in-law, Robert Alexander, from the estate of James McNutt for the schooling of James McNutt Jr. and Robert McNutt in 1748 and Alexander McNutt in 1749. On 15 Apr 1765, both Thomas Beard and his grandson, Thomas Alexander, submitted claims to the court of Augusta Co. for provisions and impressed horses for the military.
Following is an abstract of Thomas Beard's Will, written 15 May 1769 and proven 18 Oct 1769, Will Book No. 4, p. 111, Augusta Co., as compiled by Lyman Chalkley, "Chronicles of the the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia," Vol. III, p. 257:
