Through YDNA testing at familytreedna.com it was found my first cousin Richard William AGNEW does not have AGNEW dna but instead has BEARD.Richard William Agnew, my 1st cousin and I match on the Family Finder test as 1st cousins.
This BEARD dna change is believed to have started before Levi Agnew's birth in 1803, he was born in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania.
My cousin shares a genetic distance of 1 with two BEARD's whose ancestors were in Pennsylvania prior to 1800, Bobby Joe Beard, deceased and Charles Edward Beard whose earliest proven ancestor is John BEARD, b. 30 Mar 1765 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania d. 31 May 1826 in Lick Creek, Williamson County, Tennessee.
If you have BEARD's in Pennsylvania prior to 1800 please let me know who your Beard's are.Levi's father has to be a BEARD but who he could be is unknown. His father and grandfather probably were from Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.

Hi - my gggggrandfather was from Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, - born 1765, some discussion regarding the name of his father and his mother - I contend that his father was WILLIAM who married ELIZABETH IRVIN others say it was JAMES who married MARGARET IRVIN.
WILLIAM, John's older brother born 1760 in his Rev War application for benefits said he served under Capt John IRVIN his mother's brother - but didn't include her name in his application. They leftPa, stayed awhile in VA - moved into NC with William Berry Blackstock who married Mary IRVIN - William had permission from the NC (later area was in SC) to open a trading post on the Tyger River - After the war John Nad his wife and some of his children moved to Williamson Co, Tn where John and Mary died and are currently buried.I am not familiar with a Levi Agnew - but there were several Beard families in Pa -

After reviewing Nancy’s file and the latest dna results for Skip I have some thoughts.
1. Skip (Richard W. Agnew) definitely has BEARD dna but we don’t know at what point it came about.
2. The new BEARD matches might be fruitful to contact.
3. The BEARD dna does not have to be connected to Levi, even though this is still the most likely time. It could in any generation of Skip’s ancestors however I would still start with Levi and if that does not come up with anything, work down through the census data to find when Agnew ancestors lived close to BEARDs of some spelling.
Additional thought for # 3 thought. The TiP predictor indicates the BEARD DNA is highly likely to be somewhere within the first 8 upstream generations.
In comparing Y-DNA 67 marker results, the probability that Charles Edward BEARD & Bobby Joe BEARD and Richard William Agnew shared a common ancestor within the last...
