Beckett's from Toronto Ontario
Beckett.I am not sure of the spelling.
As a boy of about 10 yrs (1959) I recall my mother mentioning my grandmother Katherine Walker (Heggie) Ross living or boarding with a Beckett family in the Toronto area close to a village called Inglewood where my Ross family comes from. This Beckett family was apparently somehow involved in some area of the Tea industry, a tea shop or tea house possibly an importer (again my mothers recollection).
Katherine Walker Heggie immigrated to Canada sometime between 1910 and 1917. In 1910 I have a record of her as Kate Walker Heggie at her sister Isabella’s wedding in Scotland. I then have a record of her marriage to Robert J Ross in Inglewood Ontario in 1917. To further verify that I have a record of her Brother, William Heggie arriving in Quebec on the Cassandra using his sister Katherine in Toronto area under her married name of Ross as a destination.
Further, and this is a huge leap, I have a 1901 Canada census record of an R Ross boarding with a Toronto based Beckett Family. I C Beckett (Husband) M A Beckett (Wife) and children I A Beckett, G C Beckett and E C Beckett.
My request from all this is: I cannot find Katherine coming across the pond (her brother William in 1920..yes). While I know it is very coincidental I find R Ross boarding at the same family name as where apparently my Grandmother stayed remarkable and wonder if that may be how they met.
Might there be any Beckett’s in Ontario today related to these 1901 Beckett’s who might know or heard of a Katherine Walker Heggie boarding with them between 1910 and 1917.
Thanks for this
