The 1860 does not list relationship to head of household, so it is uncertain how the children are related to Samuel and Alice.

1870 census for the same location:

James age 16 b. MD
Betsey age 14 b. MD
Sarah age 12 b. MD
Adda age 9 b. MD
Nanny age 7 b. MD

It would seem that the ages on the 1860 census for Samuel and Alice were wrong.I can not see the actual image, so I don't know if they were wrongly recorded or wrongly transcribed.
