I just recently learned that my husband's line of Bickham's, also has a spelling of Beckham. They have been a brick wall for a number of years, since the name is English sounding, yet they originally came from Germany to the USA; where they came from in Germany is not known to me.The parents, Georg/George and Christina/Christiana Bickham, along with their two children, Rachel and George, the latter two being born in Germany, arrived in Philadelphia, Pa. sometime in the mid to late 1700s.They had three more children, born in Philadelphia, Pa., Christiana, Ann and Sophia (our line).
All the records in Philadelphia have the spelling of Bickham, and one church record, the spelling of Bicham. But a person in Calif. contacted me about four weeks ago, seeing a posting I had for a related decendant line and gave me the Beckham spelling. It was the first that I heard of it spelled this way.
Today I decided to check out the Beckham surname on Genforum and found your posting. I was very interested to learn the history of the surname of Beckham and that some of them, who left England, went to Germany. Do you have this family listed in your book, Beckham Families of America?
