He was married in 1815 in Washington Co, MD to Sarah Welty; and (5) Lewis Coon born 1799 in VA.He was married on 4 Apr 1823 in Washington Co, MD to Sarah Unger.
Christian Coon was living in Chanceford Twsp, York Co, PA at least until 1783 when he was taxed there on two horned cattle, one horse and three inhabitants. In 1783 or soon thereafter Christian Coon and his family moved to the Shenandoah Valley.Fragmentary Tax lists from Berkeley Co, VA show Christin Coon in 1785 and 1786.Christian Coon remained in Berkeley and eventually moved across the Potomac River to the neighborhood of Boonsboro in Washington Co, MD.
According to his Revolutionary War Pension Application Christian Coon or Koon appeared in the 5th Judicial District Court of Washington Co, MD on 19 May 1819.In a deposition at that time he stated that he was 58 or 59 years old and a resident of Washington Co; the scribe added that the name was also written Kuhn and that the petitioner spoke a dialect half English and half German; all the statements made in this application are exceedingly vague and ambiguous; the age of the petitioner varies enormously from one year to the next; and no dates are given for any service, enlistment or discharge.During the War this Coon had served three years in the German Regiment, recruited partly from Pennsylvania and partly from Maryland; he enlisted at Elizabethtown or Point, NY under Capt David Wilburt and was discharged at Philadelphia. He served at the Battles of Trenton and Princeton and was at Valley Forge with General Washington.Another of his officers was a Lt. Schroeder (Philip Schrawder, 2nd Lt, in the German Regiment). On 1 Aug 1820 and again on 15 Jan 1822, Christian Coon, Coontz, Koontz "or some such name" testified further in Washington Co, MD concerning his financial status, as was required under the pension law of that date.In 1820 he was a blacksmith, 70 years old with no house or home; his property consisted of one horse, three cows and three hogs; he and his wife, also aged about 70 "old and infirm", were living with one of his sons. His service was under Colonel Wellner.Under the terms of the Pension Act of 18 Mar 1818, which covered officers and enlisted men of the Continental Establishment of the Army and Navy who "were in reduced circumstances", Christian Coon received a pension of $8 per month. But he is not listed on the published pension rolls of 1833-1834.
This pensioner was definitely stated as a resident of Washington Co, MD living there from 1819 to 1822.There is only one Christian Kune listed in the 1820 census of Washington Co; he was in Boonsbury Twsp, aged over 45 years with a wife of like age and a younger male aged 16 - 26 years.
On 22 Mar 1831 Martin Leffler and wife Anne Maria of Fairfield Co, OH deeded to Mathias Beckom of Fairfield Co, for $100, 44 acres with improvements in the south part of E 1/2 NW 1/4 of Section 30 in Township 14 Range 18 in Fairfield Co; and on 22 Sep 1832 Mathias Beckham and wife Elizabeth of Fairfield, for $100, conveyed this same land to Simon Felden and Mathias Garthner of Fairfield Co (Fairfield Co, OH Deeds, U: 288, 289).The land described in these transactions was bounded on the south by property of Adam Coon, Elizabeth's brother.
About 1840 Mathias Beckham and his family along with Michael Coon and wife Sarah; Adam Coon and wife Catherine; joined up with several Ross Co, OH relatives, including Michael Coon and wife Elizabeth; and Riley Coon, in a removal by wagon train to Coles Co, IL.
Mathias Beckham is listed in the 1820 census of Berkeley Co, VA; and in the 1830 census of Bern Twsp, Fairfield Co, OH.Elizabeth (Coon) Beckham is listed in the 1850 census of Charleston Precint, Coles Co, IL; in the 1860 census Charleston Twsp, Coles Co, IL; and in the 1870 census of Charleston Twsp, Coles Co, IL.
