William Carlisle (2), (William (1)}, was born at Scituate, Massachusetts, 25 May, 1757, son of William Carlisle of Scotland and his wife Elizabeth Davis Carlisle of Marblehead, Massachusetts. William Jr. m. in Scituate, 3 April, 1777, Deborah Studley (b. Scituate, 21 July, 1754, dau. of Amasa & Lydia (Wilcot) Studley).
William Carlisle Sr., of Scotland was a soldier of the French and Indian War who was at the siege of Louisbourg, Nova Scotia and died in 1757 the year his son William was born. He m. 1st in Boston, 3 July, 1746, Mary Franks, and she died young. We do know that William Sr. was living in Marblehead, Massachusetts early. It is thought that he and Captain Daniel and David (of Concord, Harvard, and Lunenburg) Carlisle were all cousins.
William Jr. was a soldier of the Revolution. He served as a private in Captain Stockbridge's Company of Minutemen on the Lexington Alarm. (DAR Vol. 125:227) William Carlisle Jr. resided in Westmoreland, New Hampshire between 1781 and 1791. He was in Glebe in 1789. He came to Plymouth, Vt. from Westmoreland, NH. When the 1800 census was taken, William was head of his household in Plymouth, Vt. He had 1 son (under age 10); 3 sons (10-16); 1 son (16-26), and himself (26-45). He had 1 daughter (under age 10); 1 daughter (10-16), and his wife. All removed to Randolph, Vermont by 1830 census.
William d. in Randolph, Vt. 2 June, 1837 Deborah died at Randolph, 4 Dec., 1841 [get Randolph death records for them].

2. Polly, b. Westmoreland, NH, 1781. She m. Plymouth, Vt. 17 Aug., 1801, John White (b. 22 March, 1781, son of William & Lydia (Goodalle) White). They lived in Plymouth.[see Families of Cavendish, White]

4. Lewis, b. Westmoreland, NH, 1785
5. Mial, b. Westmoreland, NH, 1790.
6. Elizabeth “Betsey,” b. Plymouth, Vt., 1791. She m. -- Durkee. In 1850, she was a widow, 61 yrs old, living in Brandon with her niece, Deborah Buckhorn and family.
7. Martin, b. Plymouth, Vt., 1793.
8. Lydia Studley b. Plymouth, 3 June, 1801. She m. in Goshen, Vt. (as his 2nd wife) 14 Aug., 1824 Lyscomb Spear (b. Shutesbury, Mass., 7 March, 1798, son of Luther & Rebecca (Tower) Spear). Lydia was one of the first persons to be baptized in Goshen. When the 1850 census was taken, they were farming in Amherst, Massachusetts on their own farm valued at $2,000. In 1860 their farm in Amherst was valued at $3,000, and they had additional $600 in personal property. Lydia d. in North Amherst, Mass., 28 Oct., 1888. Mr. Spear d. in Wisconsin, 6 April, 1869.

1. Edward Lycum, b. 1 Feb., 1824. He d. in Amherst, Mass., 17 March, 1847.
2. Emily Lemira Spear, b. 17 Dec., 1825. She m 25 Nov., 1847, Sanford Wells Kellogg (b. Amherst, Mass., 14 June, 1824, son of William & Susannah (Ingram) Kellogg). They moved to Waukegan (Lake Co.) Illinois. Sanford d. there, 8 Oct., 1882.
