Maggie O'Toole-- Thanks for the info on John __ Beckley, 1st Clerk of Congress/etc. I have found out a lot about Mr. John B. since I wrote the message you replied to. Some other forum people educated me quite a bit on who he was and whohis progeny is.I now have some very detailed info on him and his progeny, his progeny being thru his only (Known) surviving son: Alfred Beckley of Beckley W.Va. fame. I found a on-line essay on John Beckley written by a Univ. of Florida professor. If you don't already have it, write me and I will send a link. Now, My gramd-father thot he was kin to Alfred Beckley, but I have not been able tosubstantiate this in any way. ...... and he never had any actual proof.I can not find out what my lineage is past my grandfather's grandfather: GEORGE WASHINGTON BECKLEY, b. ~ 1820's,d. ? .m. Mary Harding ??.circuit riding teacher. ???f- ?; m- ? Thot to be lost in the Johnstown, Pa. flood. while traveling there in late 1800's (?). so, I don't know if I am kin the John Beckley, 1st librarian, or not. Sincerely, dan b. of Wayne County, W.va.
