"Marcia Chandler Beckman Prestrud’s career was, indeed, a remarkable one for a woman of her generation. After receiving her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, in Art and Mathematics, she entered the WW II Navy Program in the Japanese Language at the University of Colorado in Boulder, where she was commissioned as a WAVE Ensign. She spent her wartime service in Washington, DC in Naval Communications and Intelligence, for which she received the Naval Unit Citation ribbon. She continued participation in the Naval Reserve for 21 years, retiring as a two-stripe Lieutenant."
Mrs. Julia Rolph wrote to me in August of 1992 that Marcia's grave is in Lincoln, Nebraska, near her parents' graves.
As I recall, Marcia actually had a triple major -- art, math, and architecture. She added architecture to the first two major subjects to satisfy her university's objection that art and math were otherwise unrelated. She was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi and Phi Beta Kappa. I could go on and on . . .
