Please, everyone, I need help!I think that Matilda BECKWITH, dau of Arunah & Sarah [SILLS] BECKWITH may be my gg-g'mother, but I have a problem.
Tonight I found a marriage record online at the USGenWeb site for DeKalb Co., IL, for George WILLIAMS and Matilda Ann BECKWITH, married on 25 Dec 1855 in DeKalb Co., IL.Their first child -- my g-g'father -- Darius WILLIAMS was born on 3 Oct 1856, or almost exactly 9 months from that date.
My problem is this:
George and Matilda WILLIAMS appear in the 1860 Census of Clinton Twp., DeKalb Co., IL, together with their 4 yr. old son, Darius H., and an unnamed 2 mo old male infant.Matilda's age is given as 25y and her birthplace as Canada.(George WILLIAMS is ae 35y, b. in MA.)
But, in the 1860 Census for Victor Twp. (not far from Clinton), DeKalb Co., IL, Matilda BECKWITH (ae 25, b. in Can.) is listed as still living at home with Arunah & Sarah BECKWITH and family!!
I'm baffled. How probable is it that there might actually have been another Matilda BECKWITH who was also exactly 25y old in 1860, born in Canada, and living in such close proximity to George & Matilda WILLIAMS and family??
Does anyone have any insights about this situation?Any additional info on Matilda BECKWITH of DeKalb Co., IL?
Any/all help will be MOST welcome and VERY appreciated!!
Thank you all in advance. Also, to any interested researchers, if Matilda BECKWITH is the "right" one, I have quite a lot of info about the descendants of George & Matilda WILLIAMS that I will gladly share.
