This is a tidbit from my files - a description of an article for sale on ebay some time ago. I file these things never knowing if the person may fit in somewhere.
"Featured is a VINTAGE 1953 Ashtabula Ohio Sesquicentennial or 150th Year collector plate. The plate is marked on the back: KETTLESPRINGS KLINS... R.D. 1 ALLIANCE, OHIO. The plate shows the various industrial businesses at that time: Freight trains, Manufacturing factories, Shipping, Electric Plant, Covered Bridges. The back of the plate says: Ashtabula means, in Indian language, "River of Many Fish". George Beckwith was the first settler. The War of 1812 touched our shores at Fort Hill, the Battle of Gettysburg was planned here. Ashtabula was the last stop on the Underground railway where slaves crossed to Canada. Ashtabula is a railroad center, and has one of the finest harbors on the Great Lakes, with most modern equipment for handling coal and iron. Foremost, too, is the great greenhouse industry. Although an old community, Ashtabula is developing into a mighty industrial giant."
