I wonder if someone can provide me with the most recent info. on the Phineas Beckwith family.Phineas, born in abt. l735 was living with his wife, Phebe and children in Brookhaven, Ny in 1775, traveling later during the Revolution back to Ct. and serving also in the militia there. The book "Refugees Long Island to Ct."mentions his movements briefly and that in l776 there seemed to be a second Phineas Beckwith family living in Southold, Ny, showing up in that census.Apparently there are for that second family, several baptisms in Mattituck, NY in the early l770's showing a mothers' name of Sarah. Is this indeed correct, as the names of the children of Phineas and Phebe Wait seem to be the same.In the Wait cemetery in Old Lyme is buried a Joseph Beckwith with his wife Hester, probably a sister Lois, and the woman who is also probably their mother, Phebe. The Huldah sometimes mentioned as a wife to Phineas is also there, leading me to believe that she might have been Phineas' second wife.
In land records dating from 1799, I also find in Lyme, a Lois, Phineas, Phebe and Nabby, or Abagail Beckwith.Very coincidental.
If anyone can give me further info., I would love to have it.
