Mahlon.Thank you for your response. I did not have all the children's data but another descendant had sent me some info that I am passing on to you in hopes that it may help you, too.Was Alfred's first child really named Missouri or did I misread that.
I have nothing on Joseph Beckwith except his service record that he enlisted from Sparta, Monroe Co. on April 26, 1861.I find it frustrating that there is all that lovely info on Alfred who apparently never was in Monroe Co., and nothing on Joseph who was.
The parents of Alfred Beckwith b. 7 April 1839 NY are:
Alford Beckwith and Mary Arvilla Shay

Alfred enlisted as a Private on 20 May 1861 for the Civil War. He was promoted to Full Corporal. Alfred mustered out on 1 July 1864.
Alfred is listed on the Richland County list of Pensioners, 1 Jan 1883-Volume 4, as residing in Richland City and as having a "loss of right thumb and disease of the eyes". He received an allowance of $8 per month, beginning August 1880.
Alfred's Military Service: Civil War-CO F, 3rd Wisc. Vol, Reg G.A.R.ME. Secton Post #185.
Alfreds parents went from Steuben CO., NY to Verona, Dane CO., Wisconsin area, there is no proof that he was ever in Monroe CO.
I know nothing of the Joseph Beckwith from the Sparta, WI area.
