Grace Beckwith indeed married Marmaduke Beckwith, but there were two of them. One Marmaduke Beckwith was affluent, lived north of the James River and was progenitor of a large line of Beckwiths. Our Marmaduke Beckwith (c.1604-1677) lived at Upper Chippokes and lost his entire estate to Arthur Allen in 1677 (Surry Co. DB 1,pg 283.)He and Grace had 3 children... Grace, Elizabeth and John.
Grace Beckwith's mother was Maudlin Creed, d/o Raphael Creed and Grace, who married Ed Warren after Ralph died late summer in 1668. Raphael Creed, son of Edward Creed and Elinor, was christened 8/1/1605, Shirehampton, Gloucester, England. Abstract of Edward Creed's will... 12/4/1647 and proved at Bristol, England 1649... "To be buried in the Chappel of Sheershampton or else in the South portche of the Parish Churche of Westbury"... "To Raphael my disobedient sonn twelve pence in money (and prayer that he may reform his life)... to my daughter Joane Redman... to my daughter Elizabeth... to my daughter Margaret... to my daughter Sara... to my son William... Residue to my wife Elinor...
Raphael Creed arrived 1655 as ship's carpenter aboard "York" at Lower Norfolk Co, Virginia Colony. (Lower Norfolk Co Antiquary, IV, 82.) Arrived with his wife Grace and at least 2 of his daughters and Francis Hogwood, husband of his daughter Elizabeth Creed. It is believed his daughter Mary and possibly son William were born in Va.
Their children were: Elizabeth (M. Francis Hogwood,) Maudlin (M. Marmaduke Beckwith, Edward Oliver, John Warren,) William (unmarried, childless,) Joane (m. Martin Johnson,) and Mary (m. David Andrews.)
E-me privately if you like and we can discuss this family further. Jethro.
