Correct...Sir Marmaduke Beckwith is well-documented; however, Marmaduke Beckwith who married Maudlin Creed is another person, much older, relationship unknown. Here is proof... 1.Surry Co. DB 1,pg 283 dated 6/7/1667... Marmaduke Beckwith sells entire estate to Arthur Allen to pay debt to Arthur Allen 2400 lbs Tobacco. Beckwith living at Upper Chippoakes. If suit, this sale is made void but otherwise in full force. Wit: Robert Spenser, Ed. Bushell. (This Marmaduke died in 1670, and his widow Maudlin Creed married Edward Oliver, who in 1657 bought 350 a from Henry Perry, Surry Co on Upper Chippoakes Creek.) 2. Deed Book 2, pg 88 dated 7/7/1675 from Grace Creed Warren to her "Grandchild and Goddaughter Grace Beckwith, Orphan" of a heifer. Male increase going to her "Father in Law, Edward Oliver" names her as being an orphan and under-age and unmarried. 3. DB4, 38. dated 3/6/1687 Elizabeth Beckwith, dec'd. gift to her goddaughter Elizabeth Lucas. Her intent fulfilled by her sister Grace Beckwith Lucas' husband William Lucas and signed by him.
So... this Marmaduke Beckwith lived on Upper Chippokes and was obviously a poor businessman, having lost "his entire estate" over debt. He was married to Maudlin Creed, d/o Raphael and Grace Creed. He and Maud had 2 daughters Grace and Elizabeth. Elizabeth received a similarDeed of Gift 7/7/1675 (same page) from her "Aunt and Godmother" Elizabeth Hogwood, Maudlin's sister, of a heifer with male increase going to her "Father in Law, Edward Oliver" states her as being an orphan unmarried and under 21. Then in 1687, Elizabeth Beckwith's deed of gift was fulfilled by William Lucas, proving this line of descent. Jethro.
