Beware anything concerning heraldry or genealogy fron Bath, Ohio. For instance they offered to send me my Lesperance family crest. But the name was "Landie" in France. It got changed when a young man joined the French army in 1745 and, as was the custom in those days, added a "dit" or "also known as" name, in his case "Lesperance". So he was Landie dit Lesperance. Two generations after he arrived in Quebec in 1756 with Montcalm's army, his grandson emigrated to the U.S. As was the custom of U.S. border officials with dual-named Quebecois immigrants, only the last of the two names were recorded. Thus he and his descendants (I am his gggrandson) were known only as Lesperance in the U.S. So much for that outfit in Bath, Ohio.
