I was born a Bedard in Iowa. When I was little our family spoke French but I have not spoken in that language for 52 years. I have not had any classes in Franch but I am able to read SOME French. When I have been researching my Bedard family I encounter everything in French and have a road block. I am stumped as to what to do about this.
Something that our Canada friends don't realize, I think, is that in America we have been deludged with Spanish speaking people, who don't want to learn English, and therefore our schools teach spanish as a second language. In my school we were not given any choice as to a second language except Spanish. Now on the other side of the coin. Our French neighbors not only learn French but MANY learn english as well. I live in Fort Wayne, Indiana, does anyone know of someone here who could and would help me translate the documents etc that I find in French?
I would be most grateful for this information. Thank you.
