Hi David,I am looking for the father of Capt. Martin Becher who gave his name to Becher's Brook in the Grand National. He was known as Old Beecher in the 31st Regiment(Huntingdonshire)who retired on half pay and became a farmer/horsedealer in Norfolk. His son Martin William was born in 1797.I just wondered if you knew any more details about your William?
There is a strong possibility that Martin might be a relative on my tree as I have a William Becher who fits but we cannot find the connection. My William was also in the 31st Regiment married in Wokingham to Harriet Thompson and had 3 children there confirmed by Berkshire RO but not Martin. Have you seen the BECHER genforum? Alistair Gordon has loads of History of the Bechers from Kent, Ireland, Southwell,Notts. and Indian Army.Becher has many variants (Beecher, Beacher, Beaker, Becker,) on the various records and census. Eileen.
