Re: Mary Grow Good, 2nd wife of Nicholas, Jr
I had a chance to visit the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society last June.I was looking for my ancestor, Francis Grow (Groh) Good, mother of Mary Good (5-13-1777 - 12-8-1848) who married Jacob Beery (9-11-1769 - 4-2-1842).One of the researchers there gave me a wonderful article, "Six Good Families of Early Lancaster County, Pennsylvania" by Jane Evans Best and Howard C. Francis, published in the July 1989 edition of their journal, Pennsylvania Mennonite Heritage. This article untangles the very mixed up Good families. There were two Peter Good's who lived in Lancaster County at approximately the same time. Both of them had sons named Peter and Jacob.I strongly suggest any of you descended from the Good's read this article.Francis Groh, b. 1755 d. 1826, the first person buried in Singer's Glen Cem. in Rockingham Co, Virginia was married to Jacob Good, b. 1740, d.1803 near Harrisonburg, VA.His parents were Jacob Good, b. c1712, d. 1777, buried Pine Grove Mennonite Cem. and Susannah Scherer, b. c1712, daughter of Hans Scherer, d. before 1732, and Veronica of Bachshaft. The parents of this Jacob Good were Peter Good, b. c1690, will probated Dec. 23, 1754, immigrated Sept. 30, 1727 on the ship "Molly."He had four wives. The mother of our Jacob is unknown since only the last wife is mentioned by name in the will.Peter Good's father is most probably Peter Gut, son of a Peter Gut of Michelfeld.
