BELLS in Lincoln Co,, TN (Sourced Rec'ds transcribed)
Updates and Corrections:
No info has been found on Henry B. Bell, alleged to be father to Joel
No info has been found on Thomas H. (Harris?) Bell alleged to be father to Henry B. Bell.
No documentation found anywhere for middle name of Tazewell for Joel Bell.
Joel Bell was married only once. The speculation that Elizabeth was a second wife is due to a transcription error on rootsweb for the 1850 Rusk Co., TX census. The transcriber listed her age as 35, but review of the 1850 census images reveals it is actually 50. She is believed to be the same wife he had in Tippah Co., MS and the age of 50 in 1850 is inline with her listed age of 30-39 yrs in 1840
No proof that his son, Joseph/Josiah Robertson m 1st Elizabeth Briuw in Austin Co., TX (this couple separated in Harrison Co., TX).
No documentation found for middle name of Jasper N. Bell as "Newton".
Joel's son Licurgus/Licurus K. Bell is probably LaCurtis Jerome Bell who m Sarah Jane McCoy and who are found in the 1860 Ouchita Co., AR census next door to James Woodson Bell who m Martha C. Jones (Martha maybe dau of David Jones, son of Thomas Jones). Martha C. Jones' mother, Delilah Jones appears as a widow next door to Joel Bell in 1840 in Tippah Co., MS. David Jones and family are next door to Joel Bell in 1830 in Lincoln Co., TN. Two females in David Jones 1830 hh fit Martha C. Jones and Delilah Jones.) Since a marriage date of January 1, 1821 in Lincoln Co., TN has been documented for Joel Bell and Mary Elizabeth Southern, it is entirely possible James Woodson Bell could be another son, since Joel's first known child, Amanda is not born until Sep 1824. There is only circumstantial evidence thus far though. James Woodson Bell named his son Joel. However, when Joel relocated to Rusk Co., TX, James remained in Tippah Co., MS - he is found on Tippah Co., MS 1850 census - and then relocated to AR. No explanation for his not accompanying his parents and sibs to TX. He was coming or already of age, having been b ca1822 - perhaps he was in love with Martha by then and did not want to leave her. She is with him as a wife in AR in 1860. In the 1830 census, James would fit as a son of Joel, since there is one unaccounted for male in the hh. He cannot be documented with Joel Bell in the 1840, as all children are accounted for. James would not have been of age yet, but could have been living with another relative. Also of note, a Woodson Turner is next door to Joel in Lincoln Co., TN in 1820 while David Jones is on the other side of Joel.)
The below transcribed abstracted records on a Thomas H. Bell and others appear in Lincoln Co., TN, but no connection can yet be made for them as relation to Joel.
If you have any sourceable records relating to these Bells, please post them here.
Can anyone tell me how the following BELL individuals are related to JOEL BELL?Facts always appreciated, but speculation, rumor and innuendo is invited as well.
Best regards,
Debra Vinson
