Mary, it is not Knez Gorcia, it is Knez Gorica, in Karlovacka County. Gorica means woodland, as in region's name Gorski Kotar= woodland region.Earliest BELOBRAJDIC' recorded in Gorski Kotar: 1670 Petrus (Peter) BELLOBRADICH in Kocijani; in Ravna Gora: Michael BELLOBRAIDICH in 1816; in Lokve: Joannes (John) BELLOBRAIDICH in 1780.You will be interested to note that for about 150 years in 16th and 17th century most of the area was devoid of human habitation. Dangerous Turkish raids caused a flight of inhabitants. When the Turks were contained, the area was settled with settlers being brought in from different areas of Croatia, Slovenia and neighboring areas. This explains the many family names of different ethnic backgrounds such as f.i.: LONGHINO, WOLF, PINTER, FORENBAHER etc. In Italian tel book f.i. there are 855 BRAIDA recorded, in Croatia just a few BRAJDA in Rijeka, 120 BELOBRAJDIC in Croatia; 498 PINTER in German tel book, PINTER and PINTAR are numerous in both Slovenian and Austrian tel books as well as Croatian.
