Re: Osceola/Bemo Family et al
Acc. to reserached done by Patricia Wickman in her Osceola's Legacy book, I noticed a picture of John Douglas Bemo on page 17, a/k/a Tal-A-Mas-Mico, "King of the Forest", he was captured as a small boy, and raised by a man named Jean Bemau, at sea for 8 years.Thought to be a Seminole Indian. Was sent to some of the best schools at the time.Apparently John Bemo was present when Chief Osceola died. His mother was thought to be either Hepsy Homarty or the older sister of the Chief, Maurnee ("Miss Sarah" Missouri Powell).I do not see a resemblance to the Chief, but the fact that me may be only half related, it is possible that he is closely related.
John Bemo may have been born about 1824.I do not know when he died.
Do you agree with Ms. Wickman's findings or do you have other information about your John Bemo?
Sincerely, Lisa Looney
