Why was Walter Bender in Prison?????????????

Anyone know why Walter William Bender was in Prison or how long? I know he died in the Ft. Madison State Prison 12/4/1961. He was born 2/2/1908 in either Lyon County, Kansas or McPherson Co., Kansas. He was the youngest child of Moses and Amanda Ellen (Keim) Bender. Hope some one can help. Thanks......Kat
