I am researching the above-referenced individual. He is my 2nd great-uncle, the younger brother of my great-grandmother.He was born 16 July 1873 at Norra Möckleby, Öland, Kalmar, Sweden. He emigrated thru the ports of Göteborg, Sweden and Hull, England w/his mother, Ingrid "Kristina" Jonsdötter, and his older sister, Augusta "Mathilda" Bengtsson (his father, Nils Petter Bengtsson emigrated in 1873 about six months before Albert was born).
Albert and family can be found in the 1880 Federal Census for Arnot, Tioga Co., PA, in the household of "Nels Benson."Albert's sister, Mathilda, married Johan Anderson (later Bergquist) at Arnot at Gethsemane Lutheran Church on 5 Aug 1886.
Albert was living in Homer City, Center Twp., Indiana Co., PA, in Sept 1918 because I just found a copy of his WWI Draft Registration online on Ancestry.com.He signs his name as "Albert Benson."I know conclusively that this is the man I am searching for because he lists my great-grandfather as his next of kin (his sister is deceased by this time). My great-grandfather was John A. Bergquist of Arnot, Tioga Co., PA.Albert lists John as "John Burgquist of Arnot, Tioga, PA."
Albert lists his employer as Tide Mining Co., Tidedale, Lucerne Mines, Indiana Co., PA.Is this actually two separate mining operations?I have looked over the historical mining sites for Indiana Co. online, and I am a little confused.I see from the sites that the mine(s) are located near Homer City.
In the 1930 Census for Somerset Co., PA, I find an Albert J. Benson living in Acosta, Jenner Twp.I believe it is the same individual.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.I have searched for information regarding this individual beyond the 1880 Census for the last 30 years.
