Margaret,
Was hoping you might be able to help me and that this might connect to earlier years of the line your looking for.I am trying to determine what family of Bennett's a Mary Bennett belongs to in 1740s Craven Co.Mary Bennett married Joseph Graves 29 April 1743 Prince Frederick Parish, Craven Co., SC.Mary and Joseph established a plantation on the Peedee River in Britton's Neck in now Marion County SC by 1750s.By the Marion County History the Graves arrived 1735 directly from England with a Colony that established Britton's Neck.I'm not sure this is completely accurate and he may have lived elsewhere in the state before arriving to Britton's Neck where he settled with Mary Bennett. There are earlier lines in England of Bennett and Graves marriages. From SC land records I have determined that there is a John Bennett owns land in Colleton & Berkley Co SC by 1704. Bennetts are often listed on Documents with same names on documents as Graves but have found no documents with a Graves and Bennett on the same docuemnt. There is also an Alexander Bennett that is a merchant from England (seemed to live in SC for awhile) that by 1736-1752 has multiple tracts of plantation land located on the Georgetown River, on the Peedee River, on the Pon Pon River in Colleton, in Queensborough township in Craven and town lots in Williamsburgh. A Moses Bennett purchases town lots in Berkley and Charleston from 1722 on. In 1738 Moses Bennet is listed with land in Craven-Santee River.Moses died by 1751.I then find a Samuel Bennett suing Joseph Britton which I assume to be of (now) Marion Co.SC but I have not read these records.Samuel Bennett has land on Black River Cane Savanah Cr.-Craven Co. in 1760s.By 1770 an Ervin Bennet is listed as a land owner on Catfish Creek-off of Great Peedee near Graves in Britton's Neck.I would be interested if you have any idea of what or which family would have been located in Prince Frederick's Parish during 1740s.Any info will help. Thanks
Kathie
