Re: John/Lucy BENNETT
It is not clear whether the Basil Bennett who married Matilda Drake, and is buried with her in Richwoods, IL, is a brother of the John Bennett who married her sister Charity Drake. There were several Bennett families in Nelson/Spencer counties Kentucky at the time.
What is known is that John Bennett b abt 1779 had a brother Daniel Bennett b abt 1770. This Daniel is found on census record in Spencer county, KY along with three other Bennett families who were his sons: Basil Bennett b abt 1798; Assa Bennet b abt 1804; and Reason Bennett b abt 1804.Reason Bennett (listed as Resin on one of the census's) had a daughter, Erastice (Erastus, Arastus...it varied a lot). This daughter married John F. Drake III b abt 1828. He was the son of John F. Drake Jr, a brother to both Charity Drake Bennett and Matilda Drake Bennett.
John Bennett b 1779, Daniel Bennett b 1770 were sons of John Bennett b abt 1740. Whether Basil Bennett who married Matilda Drake was another brother is complicated bythe fact that his tombstone in Illinois lists him as Basil Bennett JR!
There are 2 versions of the migration of the Bennetts from Virginia to Kentucky. The earlier one has a direct line from VA to KY. The later account shows the migration to SW PA (then called Yohogania co, VA) prior to the migration to Kentucky. I know that the Drakes were in SW PA from abt 1775-1793. The Heady's and Stillwells, who also went to Kentucky, had arrived in SW PA abt 1769 and were originally from NJ.
I belive my Drakes came from Westmoreland co, VA (arrival about 1661).There were also Drakes in Isle of Wight co. VA who are close genetic matches to my Drakes. Since there were Bennetts in both areas of VA, perhaps, if
I can find DNA proof that the Northern Neck Drakes were also closely related to my Drakes, it may help pinpoint where in VA your Bennetts came from.
