Hi :)
< There are 2 versions of the migration of the Bennetts from Virginia to Kentucky >
I am not familiar with the 2 versions you refer to. The info I have says that in 1779 John BENNETT moved his family from VA,Yogohania (now PA) & went down the Ohio-River with the Col. Isaac COX party.
In 1780/04 they arrived in KY,Nelson-Co & were among the first settlers in the area.
A KY,Nelson-Co Circuit Court record includes a deposition taken by Samuel OSBURN where he was asked how many of the settlers' names he could remember. He gave the following:
David COX, brother of Col. Isaac COX,
Jeremiah ANDERSON,
James McGEE,
Andrew KIMBERLEY,
Andrew VAUGHAN,
Jacob DEEKER,
Arichibald McDANIEL,
William SMILEY,
N. McCLARTY,
Henry WATSON,
Joseph ENLOW,
John HUGHES,
William MAY,
John BENNETT,
Samuel OSBURN,
Isaac COX,
Mrs Isaac COX (nee ENOCH).
I am wondering if Col. Isaac COX is the one who made the 2 trips to Kentucky that you mention ?
source: * 1985 "Col. Isaac COX Moves West" by David HALL & published in the `Kentucky Standard' http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kyncgr/pioneers/cox.htmhttp://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kyncgr/pioneers/cox.htm;
Col. Isaac COX, Jr. d=31 Mar 1788 (killed by Indians) m=bef.1776 Mary ENOCH.
Some people suggest that John?Basil BENNETT is the son of John BENNETT m=Mary COX but I do not think this has been proven yet.
I do not research the DRAKEs & I am interested in the BENNETTS because they are connected to REDMAN=REDMONDs.
