Marion T. Bennett in a 1960 publication refers to the 2 versions of the migration from VA to KY. There is the version that includes the travel to SW PA abt 1770 and the migration to Kentucky led by Colonels Isaac & Gabriel Cox.
The other version comes from a publication that Marion Bennett refers to: a publication by W. E. Redman of Paris, IL.
In this version the migration was from Hampshire co, VA overland (over the Allegany Mtns)led by John Hawkins abt 1792.
I know that my Drake family went via the Ohio River in 1793 accompanied by Thomas Heady Jr. and family. Thomas Heady Sr, John Drake's father-in-law, had made this journey several years earlier, arriving in Nelson co KY abt 1788-90.
