< the travel to SW PA abt 1770 and the migration to Kentucky >

1770s is when they went from PA to VA.
About 1780 is when they went from VA to KY.

I think you are referring to this guy ...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marion_Tinsley_Bennetthttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marion_Tinsley_Bennett
& probably his "History of the Bennett Family: Eight Generations to 1960" which I have not yet seen.

.
< Marion Bennett refers to: a publication by W. E. Redman of Paris, IL >

You can see a copy of REDMAN's essay at
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ilclark/misc/redben-rn.htmhttp://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ilclark/misc/redben-rn.htm

This is a speech he gave at a family reunion which said ...

"In 1799 an emigrant party of one hundred under the leadership of Captain John Hawkins left Virginia and went over the Allegheny mountains for the west.In the crowd wee the Redmans, Bennetts, Kesters, Briscoes, Lees, and Drakes".

The dates are not accurate in this essay. For instance, John HAWKINS is found on the 1787 KY,Nelson-Co tax list F.
BENNETT is on another 1787 KY tax list ... both of them were already in KY before the 1799 date cited by REDMAN above.

The expeditions that both Isaac COX & John HAWKINS made have some historical references & you can get a more accurate date by doing an internet search for them & their expeditions.

For instance, in my last message I gave a link which shows a picture of a historical marker which states that the first settlement in KY,Nelson-Co was in 1775 by Isaac COX.
