William Bennie/ Thomas Bennie England
William Bennie was born in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne 12/17/1849. Son of Thomas Bennie and Mary Biggse who were born in the north of England.He was raised in NewCastle and worked in the coal mines ofEngland. He immigrated to the U.S in 1870 landing in New York City, he immediately went to Greencastle, Ind. and worked as a stone cutter. In August 1870 he went to Elletsville, Monroe County, Ind. where he worked his trade as a stone cutter. He owns 40 acres of good land under a high state of cultivation and a comfortable house and good orchard. He accumulated hisproperty through his own exertions and industry. His education is limited, as while in his native England, he only acquired the rudiment . He is the only member of his family resident of his country. He married Wilmina Schultz , a native of Prussia, but a resident of Monroe County. Six children have been born to them, Thomas Willam, Charles , Mary Jane, Emma, Albert George and Gusta.(this is from the Counties of Morgan , Monroe , and Brown, Indiana, Historical and Biographical. My Grandfatherwas Albert George Bennie born in Monroe Co., Ind His family moved to Texas and William and Wilmina had four more children.
William Bennie had 4 sisters, Margaret( Bennie) Fields, lived in Newcastle, England, Alice (Bennie) Brown , Lived in Newcastle, England, Agnes ( Bennie) Vader, lived in Newcastle, England and Tippy ( Bennie )Davison which moved to Brownwood , Brown Co., Texas. would like to more info on the family and will share what I have..
