Family origins
Some of you may not believe this as true but this is your family history as far as I know it. The name is derived from Bedingfield, as is Benefield and many other similar names. The original Bedingfield came with William the conqueor and was named Ogerus son of Unimar and after the battle of Hastings took the name of Bedingfield from the land he was given for his part in the battle. This is documented in the Doomsday book. The Bedingfields originated from Suffolk England. William Bedingfield came here in about 1650 from Needhams market in Suffolk and settled in Brunswick County Va. In time the name changed and had several variations, one of which is Benningfield. If one has any information that contradicts that please let me know. The family spread all over the south and the midwest but mostly the south.
