The Benoit dit Livernois rarely went north of Montreal in the 1800's. Unless of course it was by canoe for a Voyageur contract. They preferred the south to the US and sometimes the west to the Canadian prairies. I suspect one of the Benoit Livernois familes went to Rigaud just north of Montreal and became the Vailliancourt family, though the Vailliancourt family its the other way around, the Vailliancourt gave the Benoit line. This was discussed on the Vaillancourt forum about 2 years ago. If this branch went north to the Ottawa area it could have reverted to Benoit, as done sometimes to flee from a creditor, justice or a 1st wife.
The Benoit dit Laforest folks all stayed around Baie du Febvre and Sorel for many generations. Finally mid 1850 a few show up in Montreal.
Another very small line, the Benoit dit Abel did like the Laforest folks, they stayed around the north shore of the St Lawrence for a long time, between Quebec City and Montreal. Like the previous Laforest families they did not travel.
Ottawa is in Ontario and he's from Quebec. Church rule is that the man marries in the parish of the bride. The leaving out of his parents is possibly a mistake, or a decision of the priest, as the parents are Protestants. Check to see if he got baptised just before, and follow up with a check of Canadian census records for the Gatineau area, as they most likly went there to live after. Bonne chance !
