Re: Minnesota Benoits from 1885
There is a large settlement in Minnesota that was called New Canada, Minnesota Territory about 1844,today it is called Little Canada, Minnesota.
Most of the settlers came from Canada about 1844 and later, and as best I can determine they came from Sorel, St-Jacques-de-l'Achigan, Joliete, St-Roch-de-l'Achigan, Pointe-aux-Trembles, St-Alphonse-de-rodriguez, and also from the Selkirk Colony.
My family (Melancon) came from Port Royal, during the "Great Disturbance" to
St-Jacques-de-l'Achigan,Quebec, some then moved to New Canada, Minnesota Territory.
There were other brothers and sisters who located to Cumberland County, and to L-Isle Verte. These side's I have not been able to find traces of in future generations.
