Allan, I referred to a possible relationship with the scholar Richard Bentley back in March, when I said, "Both MSS [of our Bentley book] have a passage about the scholar Richard Bentley: 'This was the famous cousin for whom Caleb Bentley gave his only son the name Richard.' Richard the scholar was from Yorkshire, the other side of England from Staffordshire."Please see my posting of 8 Mar 2007.I said there also that as far as I could see the Yorkshire connection was probably as much assertion as the Staffordshire one.I haven't found any evidence for an actual connection, only the fact that my great-great-great-grandfather Caleb Bentley thought there was when he named my gggf Richard. If there was any evidence, none of Richard's children saw it, or it would have been in the book.
